The small armchair, dubbed Luisa, is the fruit of a fifteen-year process of exploration, focused on creating an archetype of the basic elements of a chair, and its potential uses within the home. A idea-based design, where Franco Albini expressed the concept of “substance in form”, increasing the volume of the wooden parts where they join with others. Following various enhancements, the definitive version of the chair was awarded the prestigious Compasso D’Oro prize by the Italian Industrial Design Association (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale/ADI). The frame represents a synthesis where the seat and the back are two geometric planes suspended on an understated wood structure, the sides reminiscent of trestles. Luisa is a timeless piece, the outcome of skill, both in terms of technique and of materials. Part of the Cassina collection since 2004, the Riflesso storage unit created in 1958 by Charlotte Perriand in association with Steph Simon has a new iteration. As in the case of the Tables en forme, which were designed in the 1930s and then upgraded in the 1950s to a more mature configuration, this multifunctional piece is characterised by wooden shelves with rounded edges with a strong Japanese influence, which was a common theme in Perriand's oeuvre. As was the case with all her furniture produced during this period, the expressiveness of the material itself became a distinguishing feature, creating soft eye-catching shapes of great elegance. Originally available in just one size and two heights, and only in a black finish, the new version is larger. The piece is available in mahogany, the sliding doors being natural or black anodised aluminium.

Kazuhide Takahama’s Antella is a dual-purpose piece: a console that can be transformed into an oval table. The polyester painted frame, with a gloss or matte finish, is evocative of the ancient art of lacquer work, which was used on other products in the SimonCollezione. The two leaves are hinged and, in the console position, are secured using a magnet. Where space is available they can be opened up to form the table. Against the wall, Antella is a console. Cassina in collaboration with Ginori 1735 and the Le Corbusier Foundation. The tableware, designed by Le Corbusier, was originally created for the Prunier restaurant in London. In 1961, owner Madame Prunier asked Corbusier to design a collection of tableware for her restaurant with the interlocking hands motif found on the bottom of the Les Mains tapestry, which was designed by the Master in 1951 and displayed in a private room of the establishment. Le Corbusier used the plates himself which, as he loved to say, combined quality and taste, or “the taste of forms”. In collaboration with Ginori 1735, Cassina has reissued the tableware with full respect for the original project, paying close attention to and focusing on its authenticity. Service Prunier includes a plate, soup dish, dessert plate and coffee cup with saucer and is made of white porcelain, like the model, with Le Corbusier’s original design applied by hand.

Sengu Bold is a new edition of the Sengu Sofa system, a sofa envisioned to celebrate conviviality, thanks to its open, naturally inviting shapes. The new version drops the original Japanese-inspired wood base, taking its soft curves all the way to the floor. A bold gesture meant to emphasize its commitment to hospitality and to the comfort of its namesake through generous proportions and even more exemplary padding. The dedicated upholstery fabrics have also been updated in ‘bold’: the textures have been magnified, as if to further accentuate the soft lines of the padding. Sengu Bold is a floor sofa known for its different, unconventional arrangements, as well as its shared features, like natural materials and colours, achieved by combining different sized modules. Pair centre, corner and end elements, with or without armrests – including the option to add a chaise longue and ottoman – for the utmost in relaxation. To ensure maximum comfort, the seat frame is in plywood and elastic webbing; the seat cushion is composed of two parts that can be disassembled. The internal part is in polyurethane foam with a plant-based variable-density percentage, and the exterior in blown recycled PET fibre encased in recycled PET fabric. To guarantee wellbeing and sustainability, the padding for the loose backrest cushions is made from blown recycled PET fibre, developed thanks to a study conducted by Cassina LAB, a partnership between the Cassina Research and Development Centre and the Poli.design consortium of the Polytechnic University in Milan. As with the Sengu Sofa, the leather or fabric upholstery from the Cassina Collection is removable. To create customisable and complete arrangements for the living room, the Sengu collection also includes a series of Sengu low tables – featuring the same wood base that distinguishes the parent Sengu Sofa – to which a round version with glass or marble top has been added.
