Nothing short of a masterpiece of craftsmanship, the Cab Lounge armchair is perfectly suited to both residential or contract use. The leather upholstery fits the tubular steel frame like an exquisitely tailored garment, complementing the curves, in a perfect symbiosis between the structural and the organic. The eleven leather sections, hand-stitched and fitted with four zipper closures, undergo fourteen hand-executed processes before they are complete. Cassina continues its study of the furniture of the city of Chandigarh and adds the Kanga-roo low armchair to the Hommage à Pierre Jeanneret Collection; a collection that stands out for its essential forms and simple materials, a balance between modern European ide-als and traditional Indian spirit. This low chair, made for the city’s General Hospital Hall but also present in many private houses, is characterised by the "Z" shape of its sides, made up of a sequence of three vaguely triangular coplanar elements placed in continuity. The seat and backrest feature typical weaving inside the wooden frame, for which, in addition to the historic teak version, the Cassina Research and Development Centre offers two fur-ther variants, in natural oak and stained black oak, produced in the company’s historic car-pentry workshop. An optional cushion is available for added protection and comfort.

A design that responds to the needs of modern-day society and the rhythms of life in the era of the home office, where the technology is “always on”, as much in the home as it is in the work space. The objective was to create a mobile sitting-room in the form of a comfortable and dynamic armchair that could swivel through 360 degrees, while also being comfortable. Suited to many contexts, including the “soft contract” setting, this chair is also available with an arm-rest on either side, one of which can serve as a head-rest. Available in either leather or fabric covers, as well on castors.

A timeless style that has written its own chapter in design history, becoming an icon of global fame. Designed for ease of conversation, the armchair was exhibited at the Salon d’Automne [Autumn Salon] in Paris in 1929 as the archetype of the modern concept of furnishings, interpreted by its authors as “household equipment”. The separation between the metal structure and the cushions is consistent with the principles of Rationalism, just as the separation between the parts is based on an industrial approach to production, reminiscent of the architectural relationship between the loadbearing structure and the in-fill elements. These models are also available in an eco-friendly version that stays true to the original design. Thanks to the study conducted by Cassina LAB, a partnership between the Cassina Research and Development Center and the Poli.design consortium of the Politecnico University in Milan, the foam-fill parts, the padding in the cushions and the tubular structure are produced with sustainable materials and processes.

With the various models of Fauteuil Grand Confort, grand modèle, the concept of modernity is expressed through the separation between the metal support frame and the upholstered elements. The loose cushions are set inside a painted or chrome-plated tubular steel cage that forms the primary support for the piece in all its variations ‒ from the armchair with armrest on one or both sides, to the two- and three-seat sofas. Over the years, Cassina has worked very closely with Charlotte Perriand, her daughter Pernette and the Fondation Le Corbusier to introduce new versions and finishes that, while reinterpreting the original design, remain faithful to its authentic nature. These models are also available in an eco-friendly version. An icon of 1950s’ Italian Design, the armchair-sofa Lady stands out for its extraordinarily contemporary construction, a symbol of innovation supreme, in terms of style, materials, and technology. In addition to being the first armchair to incorporate expanded polyurethane and foam rubber, the armchair’s seat showcased a new system of springing, using reinforced elastic straps to ensure premier comfort; meanwhile the slender, slim-line metal legs showcase the design’s lightness of touch. The structure is contained in the seat, the back, and the arms, the outcome being a veritable masterpiece of Italian furniture design excellence; so much so that Lady was awarded the Gold Medal at the IX Milan Triennale, in 1951. Cassina’s new re-edition focuses on the looks of the Lady chair, adding a delightful range of new fabric options, including a number by Belgian designer Raf Simons.

It is through this veritable piece of design history that Cassina expresses its exceptional wood-working mastery. Designed, but not realised, in 1940, by Charlotte Perriand during her time in Tokyo, this chair uses bamboo to revisit the famous LC4 chaise-longue. Its organic form, curvy and inviting, has been re-issued and is now available in teak, and well as bamboo wood. The seat of this recliner is made of twelve curved strips of wood while the joining elements are satin-finish brass studs. Adding mattresses for outdoor use provides dashes of colour to help furnish a veranda, terrace, or any other kind of outdoor space.

In 1952, working with Franca Helg, his long-time assistant, Franco Albini designed Tre Pezzi, a contemporary restatement of the classic bergère chair. The chair is composed of a deep curved seat, a ring-shaped back rest and a half-moon head-rest, each of these geometric shapes standing out independently. Wide and welcoming, the upholstered sections combine clean-cut lines with total comfort. The tubular metal frame is cued on scaffolding poles, while the sideways curve of the armrests recalls the handrails on the Milan underground system, which were also the work of Albini and Helg. The outcome is an up-to-the-minute armchair with a strong visual impact revisited by Cassina in the utmost respect for the original.
