With the various models of Fauteuil Grand Confort, grand modèle, the concept of modernity is expressed through the separation between the metal support frame and the upholstered elements. The loose cushions are set inside a painted or chrome-plated tubular steel cage that forms the primary support for the piece in all its variations ‒ from the armchair with armrest on one or both sides, to the two- and three-seat sofas. Over the years, Cassina has worked very closely with Charlotte Perriand, her daughter Pernette and the Fondation Le Corbusier to introduce new versions and finishes that, while reinterpreting the original design, remain faithful to its authentic nature. These models are also available in an eco-friendly version. Thanks to a study conducted by Cassina LAB, a partnership between the Cassina Research and Development Center and the Poli.design consortium of the Politecnico University in Milan, the foam-fill parts, the padding in the cushions and the tubular structure are produced with sustainable materials and processes.

In 1952, working with Franca Helg, his long-time assistant, Franco Albini designed Tre Pezzi, a contemporary restatement of the classic bergère chair. The chair is composed of a deep curved seat, a ring-shaped back rest and a half-moon head-rest, each of these geometric shapes standing out independently. Wide and welcoming, the upholstered sections combine clean-cut lines with total comfort. The tubular metal frame is cued on scaffolding poles, while the sideways curve of the armrests recalls the handrails on the Milan underground system, which were also the work of Albini and Helg. The outcome is an up-to-the-minute armchair with a strong visual impact revisited by Cassina in the utmost respect for the original.

The high version of the Arabesque armchair comes complete with headrest made from rigid polyurethane with moulded polyurethane foam padding. The backrest and seat structure is in moulded rigid polyurethane with metallic insert and padding in polyurethane foam. The cushions are in thermoformed ABS plastic with the application of polyurethane foam padding. Almora is a revolving chair named after the Indian region that offers a breath-taking view of the Himalayas and, quoting its designers, it longs to be “a haven from the world, a place for contemplation and reading from where one can admire magnificent snow-capped peaks. As protective as a second skin, enveloping like a soft blanket”. Dedicated to relaxation, it is composed of two conical glass fibre shells: that of the seat resting directly on the base and that of the backrest. The headrest, in curved wood in different finishes, has a padded portion and fits into the back shell, appearing at the same time slightly detached. Almora is an armchair that stands out for the balanced composition of the different elements, the materials and the leather upholstery. The coordinated footrest completes the proposal.

The “1919” armchair is available in two versions: without plate and with ashtray plate or cup holder (both of which can be mounted on the left or right).
