The original, historic model was created in 1937 for Charlotte Perriand's workshop in Montparnasse. The base consisted of three circular legs joined by crosspieces which supported the tabletop. This, as the name implied, was interchangeable. A project designed to be used in various ways; in fact, the model would be used in many of Perriand's other subsequent projects, from the Japanese-inspired projects of the 1940s, with tops or woven trays made with local materials, to the living rooms of the Unité d'Habitation flats in Marseille. The Table à Plateau Interchangeable, today part of the Cassina I Maestri Collection, has also been developed for outdoor use. The outdoor version, in two sizes like the indoor model, has a solid teak structure and top in Carrara marble with oil-water finish.

Cassina in collaboration with Ginori 1735 and the Le Corbusier Foundation. Cassina takes its inspiration from the genius of Le Corbusier for a collection of three trays in pure, unglazed porcelain. These trays borrow some of the bas-relief symbols chosen for the walls of the buildings of Chandigarh, the city designed in the 1950s and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The same procedure can be seen in Marseille in the Unité d’Habitation on the sculptures moulées, symbolic designs embedded by Le Corbusier in the concrete – béton brut – taken from his figurative portfolio. Each tray, made by Ginori 1735, includes a design sketched by the Master in 1956: the open hand symbolising peace (square tray with rounded corners), the fish (round tray), the movement of the sun (rectangular tray).

This wooden screen is based on an original tempera and pencil sketch on paper by artist Giacomo Balla. Today, Cassina revives this brightly coloured accessory to divide and complete the various areas of the house with a real artistic touch. The Balla Screen consists of three honeycomb panels of different heights and widths joined together by brushed brass double-action hinges specially designed by Cassina, carefully interpreting the original design. The silk- screen printed decoration, on both sides, is available in two versions, with orange background in the colours yellow and green, respecting the shades in the Balla sketch, and with white background in the colours blue and green. The Balla Screen, part of the Cassina I Maestri Collection, bears the signature of the designer and a serial number which guarantees the authenticity of the product.

This comfy armchair has the same distinctive aesthetics as the Back-Wing chair designed in 2018. The armchair’s frame, available in six colours, is composed of large solid wood sections which highlight Cassina’s expertise in wood craftsmanship. Like the Back-Wing chair, its ergonomic and enveloping backrest wraps elegantly around the body while the folds on the sides, like small wings, act as armrests, making it particularly comfortable to sink into and with generous proportions. The armchair, with Seat in flexible polyurethane foam and upholstered in both leather and fabric from the Cassina Collections, is elegantly completed with piping that neatly traces and defines the profile of the armchair’s backrest.

This sensitive interpretation of the director’s chair was created by Michele De Lucchi for the Unicredit Pavilion in the Porta Nuova business district in central Milan. The designer made a deliberate choice to use natural beech, a strong and durable wood, with a high-profile stainless steel folding mechanism. The entire construction process took place within the Cassina carpentry unit, using state-of-the-art machinery. The company’s master craftsmen took over when it came time to add the final details. These, and the assembly of the piece were all executed by hand. The quality of the design can be seen in the chair’s light-weight silhouette, conferred by the tapered frame and the arm-rests. Meantime, the back features very comfortable-looking padding. The decision to use natural wood treated with a low-gloss varnish enhances the warmth of the material. The visible folding mechanism highlights how functional this chair is in any setting including, of course, the home, where space might be at a premium.

Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret exhibited the first version of this table in 1929 at the Salon d’Automne [Autumn Salon] in Paris as part of the “Équipement Intérieur d’une Habitation” [Interior Home Furnishings] stand. The table, in its original size, which was originally presented as a writing desk, was revisited by Perriand in 1984, and relaunched by Cassina one year later, offering new features to keep pace with contemporary needs. The minimalist design of the frame is revealed in the uniqueness of the chrome finish on the tubular steel uprights and the coloured lacquer finish on the crosspieces. The series includes tables and low tables, in square and rectangular formats, with top in clear, textured or tinted thermoformed glass and painted trim in the various shades of the Le Corbusier colour palette.

A collection that became emblematic of the 1960s, an era of optimism and experimentation, when the focus was on unremitting functionality. Designed by Gianfranco Frattini, these four low tables, the smallest being 42 cm in diameter and the largest 61, their heights being similarly graduated, can be stacked to form a sculptural effect reminiscent of a drum. The frames are in beechwood, either in a walnut stain, or in a black lacquer finish. The plastic laminate top is reversible, the underside being lacquered white. Today, as yesterday, this model is a popular choice, the fact that it can be stacked adding to its versatility.

Charlotte Perriand began designing the “en forme libre” series of tables in 1938 and devised Mexique in 1952 for the students’ rooms in the Maison du Mexique at the Cité Universitaire Internationale in Paris.Re-edited by Cassina for the first time in 2014, it gave rise to a collection that includes several iterations, all while staying true to the original designs. Now, working closely with Pernette Perriand-Barsac, daughter and sole heir of Charlotte Perriand, Cassina introduces the Mexique tables and stools in new versions for en plein air enjoyment to the max.
The iconic triangular shape with bevelled edges - originally designed to make the best use of the available space - remains the unmistakable trait in the Mexique Outdoor line, launched this year as a low table, dining table and high table with matching stool, available in two heights.

The Le Monde de Charlotte Perriand collection ‒ which began as a partnership between Cassina and Pernette Perriand-Barsac, Charlotte’s daughter and founder of her mother’s archives ‒ is inspired by the patterns in the photographs taken by Perriand between 1933 and 1934 and manufactured in partnership with Ginori 1735. Hand-decorated patterns for porcelain dinnerware that brings another of the designer’s passions to fruition ‒ ceramics ‒ matured in contact with the Japanese masters during the years she lived in the Far East. Le Monde de Charlotte Perriand collection is composed of a charger, dinner plate, soup plate and dessert plate, presented in sets of two, with three different decorations that can be mixed or matched. Engraved on the plates are the designs inspired by Charlotte’s photos. Here, the plates painted with the Tronc pattern depict the circular striations of a tree trunk that could be the face of a lemur or the sensual mouth of an Indian goddess. Or, in the Neige pattern, the contours of a snow slab in the cracks of a stone floor, captured on film in the Fontainebleau forest in 1934, elicit the likenesses of mythological animals or gorgons. Or, still, the fish bone on the Arête service that calls to mind a mysterious work tool. To ensure authenticity, each item is marked with the Cassina and Ginori 1735 logos.

Cassina continues its study of the furniture of the city of Chandigarh and adds the Civil Bench to the Hommage à Pierre Jeanneret Collection; a collection that stands out for its essential forms and simple materials, a balance between modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit. The bench, produced between 1955 and 1956 for the lodgings and apartments of the members of the Indian city’s Legislature Assembly, consists of three consecutive seat elements supported by a single frontal crossbar and two side supports positioned in the shape of an inverted "V". The seat has the typical weaving that recurs in all the Collection, while the Cassina Research and Development Centre proposes two variants for the wooden frame, in natural oak and stained black oak, in addition to the historic teak version, that are produced in the company’s historic carpentry workshop. Currently available in just one size, the Rio low table was originally created by Charlotte Perriand as two. Between 1962, the year she designed the piece and 1967, Charlotte Perriand made a larger version intended for the Japanese embassy in Paris. The unusual beauty of the Rio table, matched by its functionality make it a veritable work of art. The six segments, made in solid wood, each with a different radius, offset from each other, create a jagged outer edge, while the hole in the centre evokes a centre of gravity. Cassina re-issued the original version in 1962, reproducing the original lines, thanks also to the extraordinary crafts skills of the artisans of Meda, a town in the Brianza area north of Milan.
