The essential lines of the Naan table are accentuated by the supremely slender rectangular top, which comes in at a mere 10 mm, and is available in a range of materials. Exposed to very high temperatures, the wood becomes resistant to damp, while taking on a darker hue that sets off the natural vein. The inclusion of the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016 has aroused great interest in Le Corbusier’s Capitol Complex, an extraordinary architectural work created in Chandigarh in 1951 to celebrate the independence of a nation open to modernity. Among the furniture used in the Legislative Assembly building is this large conference table. Almost as if to evoke the solemn functions of the place, this model has a base made up of two important and graphic solid wood elements with a characteristic “corns entrecroisées” shape. This small wooden writing desk was designed for the children’s rooms of the Unité d’Habitation in Nantes-Rezé, a comune in the Loire Atlantique département. Le Corbusier’s interest in promoting the harmonious arrangement of people’s individual and collective lives led him to explore spaces and furniture in-depth, with constant reference to the measurements of the human body calculated using his Modulor system. The LC16 Table de travail consists of a shelving unit and a work-surface, both of them in matte natural-stain oak. The piece can be extended by adding fixed shelves to the table feature.

Delfi forms part of the Ultrarazionale collection, which was launched in 1968, and is composed of sculptural pieces designed by Carlo Scarpa, typified by his signature attention to detail and choice of materials. This table is a re- design of a Rationalist model created by Marcel Breuer in the 1930s for Dino Gavina’s residence in Bologna. At the end of the 1960s, Scarpa began to re- examine the original concept, effecting some variations, in agreement with the designer. In 2009, Tobia Scarpa, Carlo Scarpa’s son, suggested yet another variation: this time, a glass table-top so as to highlight the elegant brass supports and the fluting on the marble bases, the better to see the formal elegance of the piece.

This piece is the outcome of Theodore Waddell’s exploration, in 1956, of how to design tables with extremely light frames, and takes its inspiration from the architecture of tensile structures. Waddell studied the systems patented by Buckminster Fuller and, in 1972, created a type of configuration for Cassina where, for the first time ever, it proved possible to create furniture using suspension cables. The frame of these tables consists of six legs, of which three do not touch the floor, but provide support for the glass table- top. Meanwhile, the others touch the floor, but not the table-top. The result, extremely elegant and striking sculptural, is evocative of molecular structure.

This low table, with its audacious sculptural look, was designed by Charlotte Perriand on the occasion of the retrospective exhibition of her works held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1985. Originally intended as a one- off, this was among Perriand’s last works. When it joined the Cassina portfolio, Accordo was only available in a black lacquer finish. Today, as fresh-looking as it was when first launched, the colour options include China red and marron glacé. Placing several of these tables together creates highly impactful geometric compositions that play on their proportions to conjure a unique sense of suspension. These clean-cut and visually dynamic shapes can fulfil a number of interpretations in grand style, enabling the object itself to become a centre of attraction.

A collection of versatile low tables, available in two rectangular sizes. The edges are rounded, and the tops are supplied with either a single, or double, top, the lower of the two serving as a shelf for magazines or small objects. Also included is a low, double-top table. The top is set sideways to the legs, below which is a container unit consisting of two hand-made wooden trays. This table is available Carrara, Marquina, Carnico, Emperador, Calacatta e Sahara noir, polished or matte finishing. The base is in aluminium with the same finishes as the Volage EX-S sofa, in other words, polished aluminium or matte anthracite or gunmetal chrome. The trays are supplied in Santos rosewood, or black-stain oak.

Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret exhibited the first version of this table in 1929 at the Salon d’Automne [Autumn Salon] in Paris as part of the “Équipement Intérieur d’une Habitation” [Interior Home Furnishings] stand. The table, in its original size, which was originally presented as a writing desk, was revisited by Perriand in 1984, and relaunched by Cassina one year later, offering new features to keep pace with contemporary needs. The minimalist design of the frame is revealed in the uniqueness of the chrome finish on the tubular steel uprights and the coloured lacquer finish on the crosspieces. The series includes tables and low tables, in square and rectangular formats, with top in clear, textured or tinted thermoformed glass and painted trim in the various shades of the Le Corbusier colour palette.

A collection that became emblematic of the 1960s, an era of optimism and experimentation, when the focus was on unremitting functionality. Designed by Gianfranco Frattini, these four low tables, the smallest being 42 cm in diameter and the largest 61, their heights being similarly graduated, can be stacked to form a sculptural effect reminiscent of a drum. The frames are in beechwood, either in a walnut stain, or in a black lacquer finish. The plastic laminate top is reversible, the underside being lacquered white. Today, as yesterday, this model is a popular choice, the fact that it can be stacked adding to its versatility.

The respective Mexique table is included as one of the tables en forme libre created between 1938 and 1939, the final design was developed in 1952 for the students’ rooms of the Maison du Mexique at the Cité Universitaire Internationale in Paris. With a frame designed to be as compact as possible, the tables could be juxtaposed to create larger, symmetrical units. In 1952, the wooden legs were replaced by triangular-section bent metal. In 1956, the low-level version was created for the Galerie Steph Simon in Paris. The generous depth of the wooden table-top, available in solid wood, as well as with a gloss or matte finish, resonates with rare beauty. Meanwhile, form follows function in the edges form, reflecting the size of the human hand. In 2018, two new dining table variants of the Mexique are being launched, designed to accommodate between five and six guests. In addition, a number of new finishes enhance further the potential for these tables to work together and serve new purposes.

I have exclusively worked with Lineaselect for my house renovation project. I have bought ceramic tiles and other bathroom fittings from them at a very good price. As with any house renovation project, the choice of good material makes all the difference.
