An inventive modular sofa, with soft, inviting curves that bespeak comfort to the max and extreme versatility. The rounded arm-rests curve to meet the back, the shape expressing the crafts excellence synonymous with Cassina’s crafts expertise, more evidence of which can be seen in the upholstery edge-stitching that delineates the lines of the various elements. The sofa is composed of single units that have been conceived as if they were tiny sculptures, so they work equally well as part of a team or as stand-alones. The metal frame is upholstered in injected expanded polyurethane foam, with Dacron covers, to provide a generous and comfortable seat. The 1970s’ inspiration comes through also in the low tables that reflect the sofa’s soft profile, the painted frame meeting the elegant material quality of the wooden table-top. Designed to work together, one over the other, or abutting each other, these tables can be used to break up the lines of the sofa, but are equally at home as stand-alone coffee tables.

A ground sofa, Miloe possesses a versatile and modular spirit, and is easy to shape into inviting configurations that are extremely comfortable, while being designed for both relaxation and conversation. Available in two depths, in either feather-filled or with polyester padding, Miloe adapts any setting, thanks to its ample and flexible footprint which, over the years, has been extended to accommodate a chaise longue as well as a number of highly flexible smaller units. The sensation of comfort and the design’s distinctive graphic profile are enhanced by the soft cushions in various colours and sizes, with optional gros-grain trims in four natural colourways. Upholstered in leather or with a fabric removable covers, this sofa is complemented by a series of low tables in oak, Canaletto walnut, or glass.

This sofa’s uncomplicated shapes conspire to reclaim light-hearted sociability while its open lines facilitate conversation. Taking inspiration from the Far East – a recurring theme in the Cassina collections and often expressed in the work of Charlotte Perriand – the Sengu Sofa features different, unconventional arrangements, bound by shared features like natural materials and colors, enhanced by a series of new modules, corner and end elements, and by an ottoman available with or without low table. The structure is a steel frame with webbing, elegantly finished with two wood beams that evoke the Japanese influence. The ergonomics of the sofa seat are enhanced by a soft fold along the backrests and armrests and external quilting. This detail is also repeated on the backrest cushions that complete the sofa. The cushion padding is made from 100% recycled fiber, obtained from PET and mostly recovered from the oceans, thanks to a study conducted by Cassina LAB, a partnership between the Cassina Research and Development Center and the Poli.design consortium of the Politecnico university in Milan.

The idea of comfort itself becomes a sofa. Soriana came into being in 1969, thanks to an intuitive vision by Afra and Tobia Scarpa that was destined to re-write the history of upholstered furniture. By taking advantage of new polyurethane foam forming techniques, they crafted a sofa that, for the first time, has no need for internal support, but takes its shape from the grip of the metal structure that embraces it. In the sweet spot between formal and informal, it is inviting and open to new lifestyles; in 1970 Soriana was awarded the Compasso d’Oro as a masterpiece of complexity achieved through simple tools. The internal padding based on BioFoam® microspheres, a bioplastic of plant origin, is the result of updating developed by Cassina and Tobia Scarpa as part of the Cassina LAB project to promote wellbeing and sustainable design. The seat’s comfort is further heightened thanks to a 100% recycled blown fibre padding produced from PET recovered from Plastic Bank®.

Exord is a high-back swivel armchair designed for extraordinary comfort at home. Ergonomic in attitude and casual in appearance, it is part of the first project by American designer Jeffrey Bernett for Cassina. Its shape was engineered to lend support to the body, especially in the lumbar region and around the head. The shoulder area is lightly padded to provide additional soft support. Exord is sustainability oriented: with a view to upcycling, its components can be separated at the end of its life cycle. The rubber used in the armchair structure includes a percentage of plant-based polyols and the padding is made from recycled PET fiber recovered from Plastic Bank®. A matching footstool complements the armchair and an optional lumbar cushion is also available to ensure greater lumbar support when seated with the legs raised.

Among the all-time Cassina best-sellers, the Chaise longue à reglage continu is the quintessential chaise longue. Designed in 1928, it was based on a study of restful seating and epitomizes the concept of relaxation. It demonstrates the desire of the three authors to place the individual at the centre of their design project, expressing the absolute dovetailing of form and function by achieving the perfect balance between design purity and user comfort. The recliner’s stability, at any angle of inclination, is ensured through friction with the rubber tubes that sheathe the crosspieces on the base. This model has now been brought back in an all-black version, with black structure, recliner and upholstery.

The armchair has organic forms - like the die-cast aluminium base - and textural elements that celebrate its affinity with the environment, like the natural-looking solid teak armrest with sanded finish. The backrest, with frame in painted AISI 304 stainless steel, is available in hand-woven rope with an exclusive design or in natural untreated willow, used here for the first time. The outstanding comfort of the armchair is guaranteed by the generous seat and backrest cushions with padding in SoloSoff(C), a blown polyester fibre and memory foam-based product, and the reclining backrest that can be set in two different positions thanks to a manual mechanism inspired by Asian architecture: a supporting rod in solid teak, processed to look like a branch, held in place by two wooden nails. The collection is completed by a two- and three-seater sofa and a side table in two different heights.

Charlotte Perriand traveled to Japan and, starting in 1940, lived there for a number of years. She embraced the opportunity to design furniture that expressed the kind of poetic tension between Rationalism and Nature that set her designs apart. Her 1940 Tokyo chaise longue is the product of that experience of a lifetime, influenced by her ongoing contact with Asian products. The original bamboo chaise longue makes a return debut in a 50-piece limited edition in teak. Produced in the historic Cassina joinery, it blends the innovative techniques of industrial design with artisan hand-craftsmanship.
