With its unmistakable distinctive profile, as are the projects by Zaha Hadid, Moon System is a sofa-sculpture with curvilinear shapes and a strongly dynamic movement. It looks like a single block that contains, as if “sculpted” into a single material, the backrest, seat and armrest, which match the ottoman that perfectly corresponds to the hollows of the seat and follows its profile. Moon System is a true design statement, an iconic sofa that does not renounce to ergonomic design and comfort. The textile collection includes stretch fabrics in different colours and polyurethane coated covers that enhance its sculptural look.

Aesthetical and functional, Ray is a modular system that starts with linear elements, chaise longues and terminal elements, which can be used to form all sorts of configurations – even corner and peninsula models. Its strong points are linearity and simplicity, enriched with tailoring elements such as the blanket stitch in the same colour or a contrasting hue, that enhances the removable covers. A main feature is the die-cast U-shaped foot that, along with the seat cushion height, contributes to creating an image of Ray as a particularly elegant piece with balanced forms.

The Richard seating system stands out for its balanced and contemporary design, evocative of classic atmospheres. Its modularity is reflected by the presence of several elements, all in two depths: one for more formal and contained solutions, and the other for larger, more informal compositions. The system’s extreme flexibility and the ease with which the different elements can be assembled together allows the living space to be interpreted in the most varied configurations, from formal to more relaxed, with seats, benches, ottomans and chaise longues. The wide range of covers, in fabric with matching tone-on-tone or contrasting textile profiles, or in leather with profiles in the same material, allows for even greater customisation, offering monochromatic or contrasting solutions. The frame is underscored at the base by a metal profile. Optional cushions in various sizes add to the overall comfort.

Bend-Sofa is a modular sofa with a great personality. It seems to have been moulded by an artist’s hand, but actually originates from the study of 3D models and digital research. Its irregular shape enhances comfort. The very name Bend-Sofa effectively expresses the idea of movement obtained by the alternation of solids and voids, underlined by the contrasting stitching that gives rise to a further design on its irregular and sinuous surface. The corrugated modules, assembled starting from seat, ottoman and corner elements, develop a large number of configurations, from linear versions in compact dimensions to large compositions, as well as original and alternative solutions that stand outside traditional canons.

It is an invitation to socialise and share moments together, to converse and watch television shows on a large screen. Perfect in the centre of the room, when placed against the wall it loses none of the sense of comfort and lightness conveyed by the aluminium supports on which both the seat and backrest seem to be suspended.

Poised midway between a small armchair and a chaise longue, Pablo stands out for its accentuated, comfortable design, resulting in aesthetic and structural solutions with a strong visual impact. The appealing shape is defined by an accentuated depth and a slightly inclined front. The frame is in solid wood in various finishes. Flowing on from the backrest and fastened to the armrests, the seat seams to float, suspended in mid-air. It comprises a double layer of thick leather with light seat padding, barely visible to the eye but capable of ensuring great comfort. Apparently simple, Pablo reveals a meticulous attention to detail. The result is especially noticeable in the proportions, which are calibrated to the millimetre, in the constant counterpoint of straight and curved lines, and in the frame’s vertical elements softened by a curved section.

A comfortable hollow shape, in two sizes, that stands on a series of bases that create the overall character. The combination of these elements produces a family of armchairs with strong personality. At the origin of all of them, a long experimentation centred on the production technology of thermoformed leather, starting from a plastic shell that is inserted into a mould for the cold foaming of polyurethane, with the result of obtaining elasticity and comfort.

Designed in 1969, right from the onset the Up series has been one of the most outstanding expressions of design with its expressive shapes upholstered with elastic fabric. This innovative solution, poised midway between design and art, and conceived to be offered to a wide audience, stems from B&B Italia’s extensive technological know-how in terms of polyurethane injection moulding. Particularly noteworthy among the armchairs is the iconic UP5_6, with its unmistakeable anthropomorphic references: a metaphor of a large womb, it calls to mind ancient statues of the goddesses of fertility. But that’s not all: a spherical ottoman tied to the armchair contrasts the image of comfort and convenience with a more figurative one of a woman with a ball and chain tied to her foot. Gaetano Pesce described the project as follows: “At that time, I was seeking to tell a personal story about my concept of women: I believe that women have always unwittingly been their own jailer. This is why I decided to give this armchair the shape of a woman with a ball and chain, reflecting the traditional image of a prisoner”. This armchair also comes in a junior version for kids aged 3 and up – a perfectly faithful replica of the original design, only smaller. The series also includes the UP7 “foot”, a large sculptural object in painted polyurethane that poses as an archaeological relic of the modern era.

Harbor Laidback is a versatile and innovative armchair that redefines the concept of relaxation continuing the tradition of the Harbor armchairs, a classic it shares the origin of the inverted truncated cone shape and the harmonious and flowing line. Equipped with a swivel aluminium base with four spokes, Harbor Laidback has an unprecedented mechanism, perfectly hidden in the frame, that allows the simultaneous movement of the backrest and the seat. To control the movement, all you have to do is operate a lever strategically placed between the cushion and the armrest: once you have reached the most comfortable position, you release the lever and the backrest stops at the desired angle. To increase the feeling of well-being, the seat accompanies the backrest and moves almost unnoticeably. Harbor Laidback also features a height-adjustable upholstered headrest, distinguished by its distinctive counterweight, and can be combined with a cosy matching footrest and a round ottoman with removable wood tray. The upholstery is available in leather or fabric embellished with an elegant saddle stitch that recalls the sophistication of saddlery and underlines the harmony of the shapes. The zip that crosses the backrest is an aesthetic and functional element that once again reveals the harmony with the Harbor family. In terms of form and materials, the identity of Harbor Laidback is born hybrid, adaptable to work environments as well as purely domestic spaces. The calibrated proportions and the height of the top of the seat make Harbor Laidback the ideal place to use a computer or tablet, to have a video call or enjoy a movie, to concentrate on a report or to retreat with a good book.

The small armchair Do-Maru is named after the ancient armour worn by samurai warriors, made up of painted and decorated thick leather plates that covered and protected the hero’s body. Like the swivel armchair Almora, designed by Doshi-Levien in 2014, once again the shell of the seat is made up of a couple of superimposed bodies, softened by paddings that can be upholstered with either fabric or leather. The cast aluminium back support boldly underlines the conical profile of the small armchair, while the anterior support is in tubular metal with different finishes, studied to match the colours of the body.
