Madame C. is a young, truly unconventional yet elegantsofa. As Coco Chanel - to whom the collection is
dedicated - would say: “Fashion fades, only style remains
the same”. The main aesthetic feature is the armrest,
which consists of a cushion folded onto itself in a special
L shape facing outwards; the backrests are slightly tilted
to ensure maximum comfort. The upholstery, available in
fabric or leather, is fully removable; the base in metal, in
two different shapes, completes the sofa’s contemporary
image. Madame C. ensures maximum modularity, thanks
to the numerous elements, which make it possible to
create, in addition to the linear sofa, solutions with chaise
longue or corners, or combining comfortable poufs.

Modular and versatile, thanks to the variety of elements and configurations available, the Mex-Hi system consists of five different sized bases on which the independent cushions - armrests, backrests and seats - are fastened to create corners, in-line or island compositions. Thanks to the study carried out by Cassina LAB, a collaboration between the Cassina Research and Development Centre and Poli.design at the Milan Polytechnic, the sofa is made with innovative materials in order to make it comfortable and more sensitive to the environment. A 100% recycled ibre, deriving from PET mainly recovered from the sea, has been introduced into the cushion padding. The frame is in tubular steel with elastic belts; the upholstery is removable. A freestanding side table and a pouf/table complete the collection.

We’d be lost without our backpacks wouldn’t we? They carry our lives through the objects we love and give us flashbacks to times in school where life felt so much easier. The older we get we use them to travel and to experience new adventures, our love for the backpack is thus universal for so many reasons. It was those memories and all the things that we throw into our backpacks (physical and metaphorical) that made us think, why can’t base a design on those very ideas. We created a sofa that is not only functional but looks like the most inviting place to sit for hours and to relax. Back Pack takes the idea of what is comfortable to us for so many reasons and brings it to a whole new context. Plush cushions, high quality wooden sections, modular concepts and a light touch to round off this stunning design.

The Punta Ala outdoor sofa, characterized by its enveloping and rigorous elementary geometric shapes, has a fundamental structure in metal, conceived as a delicate and sturdy basket that serves to accommodate supple cushions, which convey a feeling of pleasurable relaxation. Punta Ala emphasizes the juxtaposition between the rigid tubular lines of the load-bearing shell and the simple, soft volumes of the seating area, employing a lexicon of compositional purity that yields a sofa of nimble and airy conception. The elaborate weave and warp of the straps, unique in this genre, establishes its own aesthetic leitmotif. The straps, which originate from a sole ribbon, come together in succession in the backrest, a seamless braiding that produces a dynamic and distinctive zigzag pattern. The resulting sensation is one of lightness and freshness: a marine breeze that caresses and reinvigorates. The originality and strong identity of the individual features, along with the union between relaxation and aesthetic pleasure that can be perceived at first glance, make Punta Ala a sofa with which to feel at ease – a design solution that underscores the objective of creating pieces of pronounced sensitivity, subtle protagonists with innate grace. Satellite elements are available that can be autonomously integrated with the structure: minimal protrusions, small promontories formed from functional surfaces in solid wood, meet the various needs of domestic arrangement along the entire posterior and lateral perimeter of the sofa like rhythmic punctuation, allowing for a variety of creative compositions.

The structure is made of powder-coated lacquered stainless steel, supported by narrow feet. The outdoor cushions are designed to allow water to drain away, meaning that the sofas dry quickly and can be supplemented with other optional cushions to give extra support to the backrest. The two-seater outdoor sofa from the Souvenir d'Italie collection, designed by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba, is characterised by lightness and informal comfort. Generously sized, it features a simple design that interprets two archetypes of outdoor furniture: metal and woven belts. The polypropylene fibre elastic belts punctuate the surface of the seat and backrest with full and empty spaces, creating an image of lightness and transparency. That lightness is also emphasised by the cast aluminium support feet, which make the sofa appear as thought it is suspended off the ground. The supporting structure, in extruded aluminium, is made up of three longitudinal beams with an oval section that form an "L", wrapped in the motif created by the belts. The cushions are made up of large "mattresses", emphasised by pronounced piping that draws their silhouette. They are placed directly on the woven structure, without concealing it. The padding is double-density draining polyurethane foam, designed especially for outdoor furnishings. To evoke the idea of a garden bench, the armrests are simplified into two cylinders, supported only by an upholstered metal support in combination with the cushions. The sofa brings to mind a more casual and less formal idea of comfort, typical of outdoor uses. For furnishing gardens, poolside areas, terraces or ship decks, in both residential and contract settings. The Souvenir d'Italie collection is designed to match with the finishes and colours of the Poltrona Frau Boundless Living Outdoor Collections to create environments without borders, and with an Italian savoir-vivre.

A living room system designed to define the domestic landscape in a fluid, flexible manner. This is Esosoft ‒ the first project by Antonio Citterio for Cassina ‒ a modular sofa that embodies the timeless elegance and style the Italian designer is known for and, at the same time, is an aspirational tribute to the art of the great masters and to the practice of visualizing furniture by detaching the structural part from its padded interior. In fact, Esosoft consists of an aluminium exoskeleton and a shell with an organic silhouette upon which soft cushions are placed. Past and future coexist in this shape ‒ reminiscent of the concept of casual comfort typical of the 1960s ‒ that benefits from cutting-edge production techniques, mindfully chosen to make the system circular and sustainable. Thanks to the work of Cassina LAB, materials like a polyurethane foam that contains a percentage of polyols deriving from biological sources and blown recycled PET fibre in the backrest cushions. The Esosoft collection comprises eight modules that can be used as individual sofas or combined to form corner arrangements, lending the utmost flexibility to the configuration of living spaces. Special attention was focused on size, taking into account urban settings where space is often at a premium. The cushions ‒ available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes ‒ can be added individually or in sets. The Esosoft family is complemented by benches in different sizes, ottomans and a series of coffee tables with top in wavy glass, in several colours, or in marble.

A modular system featuring simple, essential volumes, Refolo was created by Charlotte Perriand in Tokyo in 1953, yet remains as current as it was then. The design prioritised functionality, leading the designer to simplify shapes, drawing her inspiration from the orient. Set at an ideal height for a variety of tasks, the horizontal plane is composed of 19 parallel strips of wood in either natural or dark stained oak, supported by two or three legs. Each backrest, with frame in painted AISI 304 stainless steel, is available in hand-woven rope with an exclusive design or in natural untreated willow, used here for the first time. The outstanding comfort of the sofa is guaranteed by the generous seat and backrest cushions with padding in SoloSoff(C), a blown polyester fibre and memory foam-based product, and the reclining backrest that can be set in two different positions thanks to a manual mechanism inspired by Asian architecture: a supporting rod in solid teak, processed to look like a branch, held in place by two wooden nails. The collection is completed by an armchair and a side table in two different heights.

Designed in 1983, the Max sofa has maintained its iconic appeal ever since. Not just a sofa, it is a sculptural icon whose sinuous lines lend it star status wherever it’s placed, whether in a domestic or hospitality setting, like waiting rooms, corporate offices, lounge areas or boutiques. The lightweight tubular metal structure – available in chrome, satin, burnished, champagne or black chrome finish – supports the characteristic “kidney bean-shaped” seat cushion and cylindrical seat back. The Max sofa can be upholstered in leather or fabric. A trendy version was crafted with unique black and white optical-print leather upholstery and entered the collective imagination, thanks to a memorable photograph by Gabriele Basilico.

Cassina revisits a 20th century design icon, symbol of the vitality, innovation and creativity of Italian design and one of its masters, Gaetano Pesce. The Tramonto a New York sofa, reproduced in an exclusive limited series of 50 pieces, maintains all of its expressive power and the relevancy of the original 1980 design. A tribute to the designer’s adopted city and, at the same time, an admonition (later reconsidered by Pesce) about its impending decline. And much more. Tramonto a New York is a piece of furniture that aims to redeem the mere functionalism of the design expressing – clearly inspired by Pop Art – an obvious reflection on the contemporary vibe and identity of a metropolis synonymous with dynamism, revolution and energy. Therefore, a personal confession, embodied in a form that goes beyond the customary approach to seating and becomes architecture. Padding filled, individually crafted skyscrapers upholstered in an exclusive fabric whose raised rectangular texture places light and shadow side by side, creating the effect of light that reflects off the windows. In contrast, the setting sun, wrapped in vivid red satin, drops between the buildings that form the backrest. The elements have a plywood frame and elastic webbing and a structure in variable density natural rubber covered in recycled PET polyester batting, encased in fabric. Up-sized to a larger version than the historic original, Tramonto a New York is available in one size only, a three-seat sofa. To guarantee the authenticity of this special edition, each sofa bears a satin finish steel plate with the Cassina logo, the name of the design, the serial number and the name and signature of the artist, Gaetano Pesce. Like all new Cassina products, Tramonto a New York uses circular materials developed through the work of Cassina LAB.
