In designing Auckland, Jean Marie Massaud undertakes a restatement, in a contemporary key, of the classic lounge chair, which serves to reconfirm the original looks and comfort of this timeless classic. The seat of this swivel chair, available in black or white with optional foot-rest, is characterised by the seat’s shell-shaped structure, left deliberately exposed to evoke the armour worn by Kendo fighters. The shell protects the upholstered parts of the chair and is linked to the four-spoked base by a cantilevered metal support. This unusual arrangement confers a very faint, yet pleasurable, oscillating movement. The chair is complemented by a head-rest adjustable to eight height-options.

Designed by Ico Parisi in 1960 for Cassina, at that time “Figli di Amedeo Cassina”, the 875 is a welcoming and elegant armchair. The author’s typical experimentation has led to a project that is both classic and modern at the same time. Its proportions, with its large seat and comfortable armrests, outline its solemn profile, while the original arched steel supports in different finishes - to which its shell is bound - and the contrast of different ma-terials make it eclectic, innovative and functional in any room of the house. The structure of the armchair, initially padded with foam rubber cut into sharp edges, has now been re-issued with polyurethane foam padding to maintain its linear shape. Both the seat and backrest are upholstered in fabric from the Cassina collections, as are the removable cushions.

A timeless style that has written its own chapter in design history, becoming an icon of global fame. Designed for ease of conversation, the armchair was exhibited at the Salon d’Automne [Autumn Salon] in Paris in 1929 as the archetype of the modern concept of furnishings, interpreted by its authors as “household equipment”. The separation between the metal structure and the cushions is consistent with the principles of Rationalism, just as the separation between the parts is based on an industrial approach to production, reminiscent of the architectural relationship between the loadbearing structure and the in-fill elements. These models are also available in an eco-friendly version that stays true to the original design. Thanks to the study conducted by Cassina LAB, a partnership between the Cassina Research and Development Center and the Poli.design consortium of the Politecnico University in Milan, the foam-fill parts, the padding in the cushions and the tubular structure are produced with sustainable materials and processes.

This version of the Fauteuil à dossier basculant debuted at the first French Union of Modern Artists exhibition in 1930 and demonstrated how the furniture, displayed the previous year at the Salon d’Automne [Autumn Salon], could be produced with a greater variety of upholstery options. The Doron Hotel armchair was designed in 1947 by Charlotte Perriand, a real mountain lover, for the winter sports resort of Méribel Les Allues and for Hôtel Doron, one of the first chalet-hotels, in the same location. The French designer always had a special and profound relationship with nature; in fact, she was one of the first to explore the relationship between man and his surrounding environment, seeking natural materials to use in her projects. Comfortable, textural and pleasant to the touch, the Doron Hotel armchair comes in the outdoor version as well. It can be paired with Charlotte Perriand’s Table à Plateau Interchangeable.

The seat of the Jay Lounge armchair is modelled around the body. The geometries are organic yet taut and sculpted. The backrest and seat are independent of each other. The base, designed ad hoc and die-cast, permits 360° rotation with automatic return to the starting position. The seat structure is in moulded rigid polyurethane reinforced with metal inserts. The padding is in moulded polyurethane foam and polyester wadding. The 4-spoke swivel base is made from aluminium and is available in the blasted-burnished and polished finishes. Pelle Frau® leather upholstery with refined tone-on-tone stitching that embellishes the surface. Jay Lounge is also available in a version with manual recliner mechanism for adjusting the angle of the backrest. The natural complement for the comfort of the armchair is the Jay Lounge pouf which, with its equally clean and sculpted design, comes in the same materials but with fixed base.

The Bambola armchair is part of Le Bambole series, originally designed in 1972, awarded with the Compasso d’Oro in 1979. Icon of timeless contemporaneity and one of the most effective expressions of Made in Italy excellence combining research and creative flair, Le Bambole have provided a very personal answer to the theme of seats. What makes them special is the apparent absence of a load bearing structure, the extreme naturalness of the shape, and the combination of comfort, softness and elasticity that their appearance conveys. Where the original construction was based on a metal structure embedded in polyurethane, now the materials used are of the latest generation, starting from recycled polyethylene gives structure. A sustainable project thanks to the choice of materials and the construction method, that allows the components of Le Bambole to be completely disassembled and therefore easily recyclable.

Every constructive detail of the Tessa armchair is a clue to the great complexity that lies behind its seeming simplicity. The kind of simplicity that stems from the ingenuity and hand-craftsmanship inherent to the concept of the product itself.
The structure is made entirely of solid ash or turned Canaletto walnut. The traditional joinery requires expert craftsmanship and gently exalts the natural texture and feel of the wood. An ancient art that dates back to Italian rural tradition, the delicate yet strong woven paper rush cord in the seat and backrest is also finely hand-crafted. Soft optional cushions held in place by slender straps add a deeper sense of welcome to the Tessa armchair.

The A.B.C.D. armchair is a re-edition of the iconic A.B.C. armchair, introduced in 1996. Some substantial changes were made to the new version, launched in 2014 – like the re-design of the base and elimination of the armrest – to give it a softer look. The metal structure of the armchair comes in satin, chrome, burnished, black chrome or champagne finish. The A.B.C.D. armchair can be paired with its namesake ottoman-footstool and is equipped with a state-of-the-art mechanism for reclining the seat back. An elegant accessory is also available – a convenient headrest with soft goose-down padding and metal counterweight. The A.B.C.D. armchair was awarded honorable mention by the international jury of the 24th ADI [Industrial Design Assn.] Compasso d’oro Award.

The seat and backrest padding is composed of two shaped cushions in polyurethane foam, attached to the metal frame using strips of Velcro. The cushions are covered with a goose down quilt, also fixed in place with Velcro strips.The exterior upholstery of the Archibald Gran Comfort is available in Pelle Frau® Safari leather or in a selection of Poltrona Frau fabrics, and the covers can be removed from both versions. In the leather version the edge is raw cut and hand-painted in a matching colour. Choice between tone-on-tone or contrast stitching. In the fabric version the stitching is tone-on-tone.
