Eclisse, designed by Vico Magistretti in 1965, won the Compasso d’Oro Award in 1967 and become ambassador of Italian design worldwide. Eclisse is an avant-garde balance between form and function, design and utility. The concept’s foundation lies in its functionality of adjusting the intensity of light through its rotating inner shade that “eclipses” the light source. In fact, with a fixed outer shell and a moveable inner shell the lamp can provide direct or diffuse light.
A table lamp, it can also be wall mounted. Painted metal body available in white, red, orange or yellow and PVD version, made with an innovative and sustainable process of metal vacuum deposition ("sputtering"), available in black, brass, copper or mirror.
From the point of view of environmental-friendliness, “sputtering” is the absolutely cleanest coating technology for the type of metal used and because all emissions are abated, in particular those into the atmosphere of sulphuric acid and cyanides produced by galvanic processes.
Solid paint with up to 5% of solvents (compared to 75% of traditional products) is employed for the successive protective clear-coat phase.
The process generates very little waste and the resulting finish is particularly resistant over time.

The acoustic panel section controls reverberation, absorbing the sound waves reflected in the environment, whilst the patented Discovery technology, the result of research by Ernesto Gismondi into the quality of the light that animates the transparent emitting surface, generates a diffused emission of light that is both even and comfortable that also respects UGR standards for use in work spaces in any installation position.
Flexia’s flexible wings are equipped with a rotation mechanism that goes from 0 to 15° and 30° meaning that the many possible inclinations and positions can help calibrate interaction with the environment; shape, materials and density are selected to work mainly on the frequencies of human speech; the result is beauty that derives from a parametric and functional intelligence.
This goes hand-in-hand with a careful choice of materials; in particular, the sound-absorbent part is developed using recycled fibres: the external fabric comes 100% from PET bottles, whilst the internal panel is obtained from waste materials.

ISSEY MIYAKE. This new process was developed using a mathematical program with 3-D geometric principals by Jun Mitani. 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE is an extremely ingenious way by which to make clothing, and a process that provides yet another example of directions the quest for innovative textiles technologies can take. The project comes from the intersection of creativity and mathematics, resulting in clothing that can be folded flat and become 3D shapes, starting from a single piece of cloth. As the Reality Lab. explored 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE’s potential in areas beyond clothing, a natural extension of the process was lighting products. IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE was born from a collaboration with Artemide marrying their lighting expertise with the Lab.’s innovative approach to the material and design. The IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE lighting collection was co-developed and manufactured by Artemide. It is a collection of free-standing, table and hanging lights. Each lampshade is created using 2 or 3D mathematic principals, where light and shade harmoniously alternate. Miyake’s unique folding technology creates both statuesque forms as well as sufficient solidity. The structure of the recycled material, together with an additional surface treatment allows these shades to perfectly keep their shape without the need for internal frame, and to be re-shaped when needed. Islet is an applique with a minimal shape but a peculiar poetic lighting effect.Its surface is animated by the light rays escaping from the slits on the front of its structure.Lots of tiny holes across the sheet metal fold let light through. Look at Me is a family of suspensions that starting from two different geometries of the diffuser follows the light needs of the space in which it is inserted, with single, cluster, or track-mounted suspensions.They are essential elements, yet perfectly designed to guarantee maximum efficiency and luminous comfort thanks to two lenses placed at the two ends of the diffuser.
The light emitted by the LED source is perfectly controlled inside the cone, the beam of light drawn by the primary lens falls exactly on the surface of the lower lens, that opens the emission.
Light is therefore not diffused through the black cone but it is precisely cut so to intercept the stepped profile and animate its dark volume with lines of light.
The diffusers can also be combined on a suspended track with a cylindrical section, available in three lengths. This offers the opportunity to design landscapes of light by distributing the luminous elements in the space, in order to manage the illumination.
Multiple tracks can be electrically connected without predefined geometries. The junction is in fact only a connection passage (electricity and data) and not a mechanical joint. This opens up to great freedom and flexibility, for a system which from a single point of electrical connection brings light into space for many meters.
