Eclisse, designed by Vico Magistretti in 1965, won the Compasso d’Oro Award in 1967 and become ambassador of Italian design worldwide. Eclisse is an avant-garde balance between form and function, design and utility. The concept’s foundation lies in its functionality of adjusting the intensity of light through its rotating inner shade that “eclipses” the light source. In fact, with a fixed outer shell and a moveable inner shell the lamp can provide direct or diffuse light.
A table lamp, it can also be wall mounted. Painted metal body available in white, red, orange or yellow and PVD version, made with an innovative and sustainable process of metal vacuum deposition ("sputtering"), available in black, brass, copper or mirror.
From the point of view of environmental-friendliness, “sputtering” is the absolutely cleanest coating technology for the type of metal used and because all emissions are abated, in particular those into the atmosphere of sulphuric acid and cyanides produced by galvanic processes.
Solid paint with up to 5% of solvents (compared to 75% of traditional products) is employed for the successive protective clear-coat phase.
The process generates very little waste and the resulting finish is particularly resistant over time.

Empatia is inspired by the association between the great glass-blowing tradition and the LED technology of Artemide. High interest in the expression potentials of this material resulted into co-operation with master glass blowers to gain full control of the special suppleness of Venetian glass and to work on the balance between surface and light, between subtle densities and transparencies. Hence clear, pure craft objects, each of them unique in all respects. Transparency and opacity are wisely dosed to obtain a glass that reflects light without glaring and without losing efficiency. Hence optical device, whose heart is a high-performance LED-based light engine created separately from the glass emission body in favor of higher thermal efficiency and performance. Light is controlled with maximum yield and driven towards the glass diffuser through a transparent pipe with a very low absorption coefficient.

“Flexia is a play on perceptions, between the visible which is material and colour, and the invisible which becomes light”.Inspired by papiroflexia, the art of papyrus-folding, Flexia is reminiscent of the Japanese art of origami.
Flexia stems from the combination of the technical lighting know-how of Artemide and the experience in sustainable design of Mario Cucinella, whose work pursues a constant focus on sustainable, conceived according to a holistic approach and laid out on all design scales.
The acoustic panel section controls reverberation, absorbing the sound waves reflected in the environment, whilst the patented Discovery technology, the result of research by Ernesto Gismondi into the quality of the light that animates the transparent emitting surface, generates a diffused emission of light that is both even and comfortable that also respects UGR standards for use in work spaces in any installation position.
Flexia’s flexible wings are equipped with a rotation mechanism that goes from 0 to 15° and 30° meaning that the many possible inclinations and positions can help calibrate interaction with the environment; shape, materials and density are selected to work mainly on the frequencies of human speech; the result is beauty that derives from a parametric and functional intelligence.
This goes hand-in-hand with a careful choice of materials; in particular, the sound-absorbent part is developed using recycled fibres: the external fabric comes 100% from PET bottles, whilst the internal panel is obtained from waste materials.

Atelier Oi
Three metal rods are introduced into the sphere by means of an ingenious mechanism inspired by the clockmaking art, thus creating the frame that supports the glass globe. The mobile rods open up inside the diffuser and, as a result of the utmost precision of the geometric joints and of balanced weights, support the glass sphere, both when turned upwards in the table and floor versions, and when turned downwards in the suspension version.
Function and look perfectly match also in the diffuser. The transparent glass is blown into a shape that derives from optical intelligence. The embossed horizontal stripes conceal the source from view, mitigate glaring, and ensure more even light diffusion. The appliance combines tradition and innovation, the old savoir-faire of the glass-blowing art approached with a future-oriented technological outlook.
The projects of Atelier Oi are always pervaded with intelligence, quality, emotion, poetry and, particularly, respect for such values as sustainability, ethical responsibility, and manufacturing responsibility, which are paramount to Artemide.
The glass and the frame are two free elements, joined together by a simple, easily reversible mechanical device; the optical system generates a comfortable high-efficiency light, the diffuser is obtained by means of a single manufacturing process, all manufacturing and maintenance features are calibrated to obtain a perfectly sustainable product.
Also featured in this project, elegance, poetry, and ethics are distinctive traits of the work of Atelier Oi, capable to combine and merge materials, visions, and technologies into a “form” that is the exact consequence of all these aspects, and to convey great emotion in doing so.
