Maxalto was established in 1975 in Northern Italy. A significant role was played by architects Afta and Tobia Scarpa, who started creating Maxalto collections which soon became the reference of a true Italian design. The goal of the designers was to create a collection made of natural material – wood – that comes only from Italy. Tobia Scarpa created products that were iconic and set a modern sense to every environment with its geometrical minimalism.
Maxalto creates classic interior atmospheres while constantly reinventing every model, shape, and detail to its best function and aesthetical outcome for modern living.
Maxalto is described as a modern neo-classical furnishing manufacturer, which was impacted by Jean-Michel Frank, Mies van der Rohe, and Le Corbusier. The finishes of the production are eternally touched by the Italian neoclassical roots. The company values its historic presence and the humanistic approach that has been developed.
The current art director of Maxalto is Antonio Citterio, an architect, and designer born in Milano. His architectural background gives him a wide perspective while creating for interiors, sensing the right shapes, forms, and sizes of the furnishing for dining rooms, living rooms, bedrooms, and other spaces. Antonio Citterio mastered the complexity of today that includes acceleration of technology, implementation of online communication, and dialogues over distances. He creates furnishing pieces for the future lifestyle, making them joyful and comfortable, including the core idea of the company – modern classicism or classic modernism.
The main values of Maxalto are craftsmanship combined with the latest technology, quality in materials as well as in the building process, Italian roots and heritage, harmony, stylistic coherence, and memory of the past fused with future innovation.
