The history of Bonaldo began in 1936 when Giovanni Vittorio Bonaldo started out specializing in the processing of metals used in the furnishing industry. The company shifted to the manufacturing of furnishing pieces in 1958 when the craftsmen started handmade matrasses, beds, and bedsteads. For more than 80 years Italian brand is designing domestic and contract interior furnishing, decorative elements, and pieces for both indoor and outdoor spaces. Bonaldo represents a true quality of Italian production with its purpose to create modern and advanced items. The assortment of Bonaldo varies from tables to sofa beds, armchairs, and accessories. All of the production goes together with the modern fashion of furnishing though keeping the timeless elegance. Bonaldo is a perfect example of creating excellent partnerships with designers from around the world. Ryosuke Fukusada and Mauro Lipparini are just a couple examples of the long list of talented names that Bonaldo had collaborations with, which resulted in creating successful and iconic products. One of them is the Big Table which was created by Alain Gilles and is unique by the selection of color combinations and steel structure. Sol and Track tables of Bartoli Design and Alain Gilles were also awarded the Good Design Award, which showed the recognition of Bonaldo products across the world.
The 80s in Bonaldo were marked by its success in designing sofa beds the received huge popularity in Italy and abroad. The company’s practical approach and use of flexible structure make it possible to turn a perfect piece of elegance and design into its second function. In 2004 the Pierrot sofa bed, created by Glenn Thomas, received the Good Design Award by the Chicago Athenaeum. The item perfectly sums up the authentic Bonaldo Italian style that is minimalistic and yet dynamic, with the soft eco-leather and firm chromed or painted metal details.
The first participation in the Milan Furniture Fair in 1971 was a turning point for Bonaldo – from then on, the company spread its leadership of Italian design in the global industry. In the 2000s the brand was experiencing not only a successful commercial period but also an important restructuration which led the company to open its first showroom in 2011 which was designed by Mauro Lipparini.
Today Bonaldo is targeting the international markets with more than 70% of its production, thus having exclusive Italian design furnishing pieces all over the world.
