Inspired by traditional hexagonal or square concrete floor tiles with dominating colors of grey and brick. Cementine and concrete chip floors were particularly popular in the early twentieth century because they were considered strong and inexpensive, and they were frequently used for the flooring in both service areas and work rooms. The composition was based on a simple color change, but cementine tiles were also used to create much more sophisticated decorations, with flowers, meanders, and other patterns interpreting the fashionable Liberty and Deco styles, and were a fresh alternative to carpets, while providing the same functional demarcation of spaces and visual strength.
