This sentence by the rock icon, Jim Morrison, defines the character of this sofa; a timeless and versatile design combining form, function and material choices to a new level, that of an Arketipo obsessive design brief. It has two very distinct layers that separate this from the standard, casual designs that imprison, rather than let go free. The first is a structure, with a small incline, designed to hold the seat and cushions, the second is the cushioning itself. Designed to sit and accentuate the form, the cushions showcase layout whilst the thin metal legs provide a visual lightness to the furniture set. Morrison is a design that revels in freedom; freedom of design and freedom of structure; our friends have allowed us to make it that way.

The Punta Ala outdoor sofa, characterized by its enveloping and rigorous elementary geometric shapes, has a fundamental structure in metal, conceived as a delicate and sturdy basket that serves to accommodate supple cushions, which convey a feeling of pleasurable relaxation. Punta Ala emphasizes the juxtaposition between the rigid tubular lines of the load-bearing shell and the simple, soft volumes of the seating area, employing a lexicon of compositional purity that yields a sofa of nimble and airy conception. The elaborate weave and warp of the straps, unique in this genre, establishes its own aesthetic leitmotif. The straps, which originate from a sole ribbon, come together in succession in the backrest, a seamless braiding that produces a dynamic and distinctive zigzag pattern. The resulting sensation is one of lightness and freshness: a marine breeze that caresses and reinvigorates. Bringing the indoors to the outside is always filled with compromise. For many design takes a second place to comfort, for others it is vice versa. For Gino Carollo, compromise was never going to be an option. The outdoors should always have as much style and comfort as anything we produce for living indoors. Inspired by a bond with nature, Santos uses strong geometric lines to interweave and overlap to create a dynamic form. Using solid materials, treated to be protected all year round, function is a priority but never overshadows the strong design which bridges the desire between indoor and outdoor living. Just one look at this design and you’d be mistaken for a piece of furniture that would be welcome in any interior living space. That’s the point though, right? Why should the outdoors feel less enjoyable when in reality, it’s anything but the case.

Here, soft touches accentuate the overall structure and feel; curves lift the overall design, each done with a subtle elegance, a subtle control of design and function. The armrests, the seating, the back support, each are designed with purpose, each designed to highlight that curves and straight lines have a reason and purpose to coexist. Self Control has "an eclectic spirit", it's about understanding what our limits are as designers, it's about defining how you want to live in your space, after all, when we find control in our extremes, true beauty can flourish.
