Inspired by the spirit of 1950s seaside resorts, Sail Out is an outdoor modular sofa that recalls the soft forms of fabric blow-up beds thanks to the single bands with removable padding inserted in individually stitched pockets. The idea behind the line is a basic platform, magically suspended in the air like a flying carpet, with cushions to enclose the borders and feet to ground it. The details of the cushions and support base contribute to the design’s lightness. Panorama collection of padded products is based on a
specific item which can be considered to be the real
unit of measurement of the system: the hexagonal
pouf which, when fitted with armrests and a backrest,
becomes an armchair which, in turn, can be combined
with additional armchairs and sofas to achieve the
most diverse configurations. Customisation and
creativity reach their utmost expression here, and the
results that can be achieved are absolutely

quilting on the seat.

This sofa’s uncomplicated shapes conspire to reclaim light-hearted sociability while its open lines facilitate conversation. Taking inspiration from the Far East – a recurring theme in the Cassina collections and often expressed in the work of Charlotte Perriand – the Sengu Sofa features different, unconventional arrangements, bound by shared features like natural materials and colors, enhanced by a series of new modules, corner and end elements, and by an ottoman available with or without low table. The structure is a steel frame with webbing, elegantly finished with two wood beams that evoke the Japanese influence. The ergonomics of the sofa seat are enhanced by a soft fold along the backrests and armrests and external quilting. This detail is also repeated on the backrest cushions that complete the sofa. The cushion padding is made from 100% recycled fiber, obtained from PET and mostly recovered from the oceans, thanks to a study conducted by Cassina LAB, a partnership between the Cassina Research and Development Center and the Poli.design consortium of the Politecnico university in Milan.

This project is the result of a group of modular panels of different sizes, which can be assembled through hinges to act as back and armrest and hold a soft seats.
